Gloomy Weekend/Good Times

After a four year stint in Vermont, I have become accustomed to city life - read: endless ethnic food options, world class museums, Target (!) - however, I will always be nostalgic for my college years and for living in such a beautiful town. Lucky for me, some dear friends still live up that way and the whole crew can make it up from time to time. Among the weekend highlights was dining at Hen of the Wood in Waterbury. Some how this cozy little mill side spot had eluded me all this time. We indulged in some farm-to-table fantasticness -  duck sausage with creamy polenta, fried oysters, gnocchi with sage and brown butter. Vermont's finest. On another note, we spent some quality time at the bar where my friend is the brewer. Mind you this is the very same bar that we frequented the most during school and beyond. It never ceases to amaze me how experiences can come full circle. It was almost surreal to be inside enjoying a beer before opening that day in the empty space, considering there is a line out the door almost every night. In classic Burlington fashion, the day was cloudy but still bright in fact which made for some nice lighting conditions. Naturally the brewer's dog got all the attention!
